Hey, Listen Here! : Kings Of Convenience - Riot On An Empty Street

September 26th, 2004 by Grant Robertson

It’s fall. I love fall. Fall for me always means some sort of renewal. New clothes, new shoes, new classes, new moods. It seems every year I pick up on one new artist that becomes the backbone of my personal soundtrack. Last year it was The Postal Service, this year it has to be Kings Of Convenience.

Organic and clean, sounding something like this generation’s answer to Simon And Garfunkel, the new album “Riot On An Empty Street” makes for a really relaxing backdrop as summer fades and the nights get cooler.

The real treat on this record has to be “I’d Rather Dance Wtih You”, which shows Kings in a bit more groovy and less clinical light than the rest of the tracks. And, if I had but one word of criticism for this album it would be exactly that, clinical. Begining to end this album doesn’t have a single note out of place, and the lack of personality does take some away from what is otherwise a brilliant listen.

The second original album from the Norweigen duo, Quiet Is The New Loud being the first. A quick listen at Astralwerks website should have you just as addicted as I am.
