Lots of neat stuff goin’ down. Here goes..
First, the thing that effects me most directly. I’ve been made Program Director for Freematrix Radio. This is good for a few reasons. First, I think most people agree that our AutoDJ system, as neat an idea as it is, is full of things that while beautiful and artistic, don’t exactly follow any groove and thus make listening to off hours programming a little nerve racking. Second, it will allow me to do neat innovative things with Webjay, podcasting, and audio production. Great ideas in the works, keep listening.
I’m looking to give innovative podcasts (creative commons licensed) a chunk of the schedule, and we’re already releasing all of our original shows under the CC, and podcasting them as well. I’m also thinking of having a show that features the selections of interesting guests. Wouldn’t it be cool to hear an hour of a playlist picked by Larry Lessig, Victor Stone or Brad Sucks? I realize Webjay offers this sort of idea on demand, although not (just) from interesting people. Webjay and podcasting are neat and fantastic things, and I enjoy both but, they don’t have to be exclusionary of streaming radio. When you don’t feel like deciding what to listen to, I want FreeMatrix to be the place you know you can hear something good that you may or may not stumble upon elsewhere. I would also like to add more live content to the schedule. There is something about the spontaneous nature of live production that just adds flavor.
Second, it’s almost spring, it’s getting warmer here. And since The Kenosha Kid hasn’t moved down here yet, I have her miata to drive all summer. Which gives me more reason to just drive, which gives me more time to listen to innovative new stuff. Now that I’ve got a whole station to program direct, er something, that could come in terribly handy.

Third. I’m absolutely in love with Eiafuawn. This band reminds me of so many bands I love. The Pixies, Jesus and Mary Chain, Beck, Broken Social Scene, The Rolling Stones, Slint, The Shins and others. What’s really cool about that is, they don’t sound like any one thing in particular, rather more like little tiny slivers of great sounds cut thinner than deli meat. It’s all prime cuts, right from the center, and so juicy. Mmmmm, music. No, really.. I mean it’s “mmmmm” music. It just makes you go “mmmmm, that’s so good”.
