I promised we’d go to Asia this week, and then yesterday I had some listeners remark that they’d like to hear more indiepop.
I’ve been searching for Creative Commons indiepop all day, and I’ve found a great deal more than I would’ve expected. Look for the next Revolution show to feature indiepop artists as a result. (I’ve also scored an interview with Jeff Albert for an all Jazz show, so look for that coming soon as well. Thanks Jeff!)
But, I digress. I found indie j-pop. This is a selection from a compilation that never quite saw the light of day until recently, and some of that music that might be lost to history if it weren’t for The Creative Commons and archive.org. This disc is really worth checking out. So is the label that made it possible, My Mean Magpie.
This compilation is also available in flac and ogg formats.

Cool track. I used to go to video stores in Japan and rent all sorts of CD, take them home, and download them to mp3s. I like the kind of sound that indie Japan produces, it’s more like Japanese music than the J-pop (which is all to American for me).
I’m pretty jealous. Living in Japan must’ve been cool.
And, yah, that’s an astute observation. And honestly, I called it J-pop for want of a better term. Still, however you classify it, it’s great.
And shouldn’t we all be striving for a society wihtout classes? (My appologies to Sienfeld)
Thanks John!
