Warm up your production software, get out your mixer and fire up the sequencer. CCmixter, in conjunction with Crammed Discs has just announced the Crammed Discs Remix Contest, marking the first time CCmixter has facilitated two contests running concurrently.

The contest, open to entries between April 26, 2006 and May 24, 2006, offers remix artists accapellas, loops and tracks from three of the hottest Brazilian musicians around. Geared to the creative remix artist, the contest will be judged by the three artists providing source material with 70% of the overall score for each track coming from creativity, and the remainder of the score from production quality. Overall, 9 entries that make the cut will be featured on a combined ccMixter/Crammed Discs compilation CD to be sold on-line through digital music outlets. All entries must be licensed to the public under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 2.5 license.

You can listen to the original versions of the songs used in the contest by visiting the Crammed Discs Web site (RealPlayer required). The contest should offer an interesting contrast to the previously announced Fort Minor remix project, with a much wider range of source material available and with a scoring model that mimics more closely the tastes of the Creative Commons remix community.

For the official rules, sample packs and more information about the Crammed Discs/CCmixter joint competition, see the CCmixter contest page.
