Our Creative Commons Three Sixty-Five project crossed the 120 day mark over the weekend. I want to extend a giant thank you to everyone who has helped me so far, and the thousands of people who’ve explored and downloaded the music I’ve chosen to showcase from the Creative Commons.

But what if you weren’t here the whole year so far? Maybe you picked up in February, or March, and you didn’t have the time or effort in you to dig back through the archives and find all the gems we’ve enjoyed since the project began.

This is precisely what god invented top ten lists for, I don’t care what David Letterman says. Presented below are my ten favorites. Songs that grabbed my atttention, or grabbed the attention of you all and thus made me listen again.

These are in no particular order of any kind, choosing ten was hard enough. I think I’ll go lie down now.

10) Vitaminsforyou - Six O’clock Whispers : Very Postal Service esque. Glitchy, clicky, nervous musical goodness.

9) Bacco Baccanels - Fearless Little John : Think Bobby McFerrin with a bit more edge and a little less vocal range. Bacco wow’ed us with an album of accapella overdubs that will blow your mind. This track is an excellent introduction to Bacco in english. Be fearless though little John, the italian language songs on the rest of his album are every bit as groovy.

8) Matty Pop Chart - Things I Like : This will grow on you. Very whimsical and reminds me of the early days of Ween. It’s shinny, happy, and one of those songs that will pick you up when you’re at your lowest.

7) Williamson - Time You’ll Never Get Back Insturmental songs have a harder time capturing peoples attention. Wade Williamson hit home with this one, and many sites linked to this. Soothing and mellow, you’ll almost forget that you’re wasting your life listening to music.

6) Metropolitan - Delorian : Take away the crappy Evanescence lyrics, take away the appreciated but overdone James Bond samples of Portished, and Metropolitan is your mathematical remainder. Raw, evisceral, and overwhelming.

5) Math and Physics Club - Graduation Day : Will remind you of Morrissey or The Smiths, emotional and poppy with clever hooks. Any tune that kicks off with a prolific line like “Let me sing you a song about the last five seconds of love” grabs my attention, Math and Physics Club manages to hold it.

4) James Hurst - Happy Lonely : James Hurst makes quiet Alt/Folk/Rock that cold easily grow on a person. This song is a great example, folk-alt style guitars and melancholy lyrics. James was discovered and thrown screaming into the pop music industry at the age of 15, as the guitarist for 90’s tv pop guinea pigs ‘North & South’. He is now releasing songs under the CC via Jamendo.

3) MEA - Atmospheric : Sharp beats, impeccable production values and all-together headphone bliss. I’m a sucker for strings and beats.

2) Eiafwaun - Bees : A song we featured very early on, Bees is great lazy rock and roll.

1) Your Heart Breaks - NOLA : This whole list really is in no particular order, save for this one. This song had to be number one. Mellow and soothing but deeply disturbed, the banjo in this will lull you while you listen to a story of love and memories. You can find more of Allison Williams with The Forge Mountain Diggers at MySpace
