The final pick of my first week of being part of the CC:365 team is a special one as it’s one of my favourite songs and a Creative Commons debut as well. Shotgun & Jaybird originally formed in the Yukon when Dick Morello and Shotgun Jimmie decided that they didn’t want to be janitors and wanted to be rock musicians. They lived in a wonderful car called “The Road King” while they toured and one day the car crashed near Woodstock, New Brunswick and they took a bus to Sackville, New Brunswick and settled there. While playing in St. Andrews, Paul Henderson was won in a poker game and he became their drummer. Then they recorded the EP There Are Days and Then There Are Days (the fifth release from S&J) with their friend Julie Doiron with W. L. Altman on trombone. It’s a beautiful collection of songs on a shiny compact disc. The EP is released on Sappy Records and they’re organizing the Sappy Records Festival, which is going to be the musical event of the Summer with shows on August 4, 5 and 6 featuring S&J as well as Old Man Luedecke, Al Tuck, Julie Doiron, Windom Earle, and a one-time reunion of Eric’s Trip to name some of the artists performing. Marquee Glass is my favourite Shotgun & Jaybird song with an emotional honesty and almost epic quality. You listen and tell me that this isn’t a song that perfectly balances music, lyrics and tone.

Great job. I really enjoyed the week. Every post was new to me. : )
Thanks! I’m looking forward to your picks since I like your contributions to CCMixter and I’m interested in seeing what music you’ll pick out.
