I liked this band when I included this song on Black Sweater, White Cat back in July. But, after preparing this post and looking at their website they are now way high on my list of favorite CC licensed bands. These guys are cool and include very useful information on their website:

  • 2005 deer tick count: 5.
  • 50% of Portable Folk Band live in the same house.
  • 75% of Portable Folk Band live within 50 feet of each other.
  • 50% of Portable Folk Band is not taller than 5′6″.
  • 25% of Portable Folk Band is girl.
  • 75% of Portable Folk Band is boy.
  • 0% of Portable Folk Band share a bed, middle name, or physical ailment.
  • This is the kind of stuff I need to know. It is so appealing. The sound is fantastic too. The band’s webpage describes it well:

Traditional finger picking, non-traditional finger picking, bouncy melodic bass lines, rowdy drums, 7th chords, descending half-steps, and vocal harmonies.

Their music page was an excellent candidate for the DownThemAll download manager that I use with my Firefox browser (a good download manager is a must for any serious CC collector). I plan to listen, share and seek out a live show. This is great stuff.

Okay, I admit it - I’m far behind, having just listened to Day 180. But I’ve crept forward to ask a question: how do we know who is posting each day’s song and commentary?

It’s clear from various entries that multiple people are posting to CC:365, but:

      1. No name is shown on each entry on the web site.
      2. The author field in the RSS feed always says “Grant Robertson”.

In theory, we don’t need to know who’s who, but in reality, we engage not only with the music, but with the blogger as well. I read about your tastes or hear little anecdotes, but which you are you? It would be nice to be able to put a a name to the mental picture.

I see the proper names in the feed.. but I’ll admit I’ve been meaning to add it to the site. For the record, it’s currently Me (grant), Biotic and Subsystem fo Black Sweater White Cat, Chris Campbell (CC superhero and film fair use evangilist) and Teru (Eric Ohara), the ccmixter superstar.
