Bunnyrabbits, Satan, Cheese and Milk - yes they have something in common, they’re all repeated over and over on this short and mesmerizing track. Stretching for my roots to my first favorite netlabel, Comfortstand, I thought it was time to send you a song from Stark Effect’s Mic in Track. To the delight of untold masses, Biotic and I have played “Think of Me” from the same release on Black Sweater, White Cat. The music is thoroughly entertaining, and well produced, but the story behind it is wonderful.

This release (Comfortstand’s 3rd), is thanks to peer-to-peer file sharing, and a piece of software called Musicmatch Jukebox, a music utility packaged at one time with many new PCs. Musicmatch allowed users to record from the microphone input of their soundcard saving the recording to a default file named “mic in track” followed by a number. If the user then happened to be sharing the folder containing these recordings on a peer to peer file sharing network, then anyone who searched for “mic in track” would find the anonymous default recordings. Fun! This allowed genius and creativity of Stark Effect to unfold, giving us a truly unique release.

(p.s. - Make sure you check out even more Mic in Track recordings on Starke Effect’s site, and check out the site that discovered the phenomenon, The Evolution Control Committee.)
