Peter Bjorn and John - Young Folks

My favorite song of 2006. Peter, Bjorn and John’s “Young Folks”. In an odd way it reminds me of Jesus and Mary Chains with Mazzy Star doing “Fade Into You”

if i told you things i did before
told you how i used to be
would you go along with someone like me
if you knew my story word for word
had all of my history
would you go along with someone like me

I don’t think there have ever been nicer words spoken about anyone than the first verse of this song.. click through to watch Zero 7 perform “Somersault” live.

You’re the prince to my ballerina
You feed other people’s parking meters
You encourage the eating of ice cream
And, you would somersault in sand with me

Year one is over, here’s to year two

Two Thousand Six is in the bag. After being picked up by Weblogs, Inc and having the magic pro-blogger wand waived over me, I was really lucky to have Chris, Biotic, Subsystem7 and Teru rock the house here and deliver on the cc365 promise I made. I’m eternally grateful for their dedication, time, effort and expert ears. CC365 not only helped push the talent of Creative Commons aware musicians, but it helped me get my freelance writing career off the ground. I could never have imagined that where I am now would be the result of where I was in fall 2005.

In 2007, we’ll be looking at bands which spread through amazing internet videos. Got a band we should feature? Let us know. Call us a semi-daily. Life is far too busy for any daily promises.

Thanks,
-The Management

Here it is, Day 365. Happy New Year everyone!

Today’s version of the classic, Auld Lang Syne is part of a compilation that ended up being the final release (CS 071) from Comfort Stand, the awesome netlabel that has been featured many times on these pages.

The artist is plunderphonics genius, Chenard Walcker. Chenard has been featured previously on CC: 365 as Day 189, but I wanted to drop his version of Auld Lang Syne with a note that Chenard is recovering from a diabetic coma. As you see in the new year, please keep him in your thoughts.

Chenard Walcker, a friend of the online music world, is slowly recovering from a diabetic coma. His brother reports that he is not physically suffering. He fell into the coma in September, and is now working on speech development and object differentiation.

WM Recordings is planning a tribute release to Chenard with entries due on January 31, 2007. You can find more details at the Chenard Walcker Tribute page at WM Recordings. He is an amazing artist and we all wish him a swift recovery during the coming year.

And, from all of us at Black Sweater, White Cat, have a safe and prosperous new year.

What to say about Aleksi Virta? If you have sampled a little or a lot of CC music around the internet and particularly, at archive.org and haven’t downloaded some of Virta’s brilliant work, then go directly to the ..Meets Torsti At The Space Lounge [mtk123] release page and download the zip. You will thank me.

From Finland, Virta manages to seamlessly merge musical strains from all over the world. This paragraph from the release notes at archive.org is to the point:

He fearlessly busts out this supremely accomplished album of jazzy, dubby electronics, originally released on a scandalously limited, horrendously collectible 100-copy sold-out CDR edition, and now, thankfully available to the general public via the wonders of the Internet.

I’m actually amazed that none of us has posted any of his work on these pages before this…I’m just sneaking this one in under the wire. There was a period last year when Subsystem and I were putting one of the tunes from this release into a Black Sweater, White Cat playlist every week. Come to think about it, we might have to start doing this again…

A remix of the very sweet vocals of Berlin-based, Swedish songwriter and vocalist, Bobby Baby.

Bobby Baby is Ella Blixt. She has been playing the guitar since she was 12 and began recording when she moved to Malmo, Sweden in 2002. In May 2005 she released some songs from her website. She has two releases on the netlabel, Corpid that are under a Creative Commons license. In September, she moved to Berlin and is working on a new album.

Nicorola is no stranger to the Netlabel scene and has appeared on these pages (Day 171) with his marvelous, Hijseenpipo.

Bobby Baby - Bobby (Nicorola Remix) (3:36)

p.s. I’m Biotic from Black Sweater, White Cat and it has been a pleasure to post on these pages from time to time. We are counting down to CC:365.
