Here is a very sweet song recorded by this Dutch ensemble. It has a nice loungy, sixties sound and it makes me feel good. You can find this song on a DVD being released by Creative Commons Netherlands. They are going to formally release the DVD at a Creative Commons Salon in Amsterdam. The event is scheduled for this Wednesday, December 13 in De Melkweg‘ Amsterdam and will be focused on music and sounds.

The DVD project was open to submissions for a couple months this spring and they had over 130 songs from more than 50 artists. They selected just 13 tracks and then opened the project for visual submissions to compliment the selected music. They have posted the music on the web, but apparently we need to wait for the formal release on Wednesday to see the visual elements. I’ll tell you now, the music is great!

Quallofill is a duo from Rotterdam that have been recording together since 2003. In 2005, they performed in the finale of the Grote Prijs van Zuid-Holland and won third place in the competition. Keep an eye out for them.

This tune is from a release called The Man Who Likes Trouble on Poptronique.

You can be their friend at MySpace.

Well, I’ve been hunting around for some bio material on Zedster and came up empty. I played this tune on the April 20 edition of Black Sweater, White Cat and came across it again last night.

I originally found it on the Dutch site, Simuze.nl. Simuze is a wonderful site with some really great music, but it can be challenging if your Dutch is a bit rusty. They have no translation and it is all in Dutch. I love it!

Enjoy Zedster!

I was reminded this week (thanks to a blog post at ccmixterblog) of ccMixter:sa which is the South African Creative Commons remix site. They had just recently concluded a remix contest called SAfro-Brazil Remix. Whispa had several contest entries including the winner.

You are going to have to visit ccMixter:sa to hear the contest winner because, frankly, I liked this mix better and this is my post. I instantly took to the feel that Whispa lays down in this track and hope you like it too.

ccMixterSA has a little bit of info on Whispa:

After studying classical music till Grade 12, he started taking producing a bit more seriously and began working with various musicians. He’s produced for South African kwaito star Mzekezeke and is currently working on a project with a group known as Koldproduk.

I’m Biotic from Black Sweater, White Cat and it’s good to be back on CC:365. I’m looking forward to a week of posting and with Christmas on the horizon, I’m sure we’ll be listening to some sounds from Black Sweater, White Christmas…

My last pick for now. Some hip-hop from ccMixter.

The quality of remixes at ccMixter is directly related to the samples and a cappellas that are uploaded and shared by contributors. As the ccMixter sample pool grows the remixes get better and better. A perpetual cycle which shows no signs of stopping any time soon.

Ms. Muthaphukkin Vybe is a producer, poet and rapper from Sacramento, California. She is also a huge contributor at ccMixter, remixed close to 100 times already and according to ccMixter site statistics is 3rd on the most sampled artists list and is frequently on the ccMixter charts.

Usually a powerful force when rapping, on this track she chooses a delicate approach on a personal topic. An example of the rap and production skills of one talented young lady.

I’ve just realized that this may be my second last post for cc365. We have a five person weekly rotation. Grant is next followed by Biotic, Subsytem7 and maybe Chris Campbell. That should do it for the year. : )

For my second last post I wanted to highlight DiSfish.com.

Since starting up in 2005. DiSfish has grown to almost 200 artists ranging from classical, jazz, electronica, rock, world and blues. More than just a traditional netlabel, DiSfish is a collective of independent artists who share their music with you on a “donate if you wish” basis and also donates 5% of each purchase to Creative Commons itself and an additional 5% to a charity of choice. Be sure to keep visiting them as they continue to grow bigger and better. You can also support them by buying dis….Stuff. :P
The featured artist today is the newest addition to the already excellent pool of artists. Plazmatikon from Poland, combines broken-beat, lounge, avant-pop and nu jazz into improvised live electronic music. According to their bio they use beat machines, guitars and synthesizers such as, Soviet “Elektronika, East-German “Vermona and Polish “Unitra. The result is quite refreshing. They currently have only two singles but I look forward to hearing more.

An ambient remix of a Classical piano piece. For pleasant dreams. : )

Makunouchi Bento.

“The Makunouchi Bento, or traditional japanese lunchbox, is a highly lacquered wooden box divided into quadrants, each of which contains different delicacies. it is also one of the most familiar images of japan’s domestic environment. reading the box as both an object and a metaphor, waka x (felix petrescu) and qewza (valentin toma) have founded this ambient / idm / soundscapes project.”

Trcutu released July, 2005 experiments with such composers as Satie, Arensky and Ravel. This is an ambient soundscape version of Gymnopédie no. 1 composed by Erik Satie.
